Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 26, 2026

This policy explains what theater.games ("we", "us") collects, why, and what choices you have. We've tried to write it like a person, not a lawyer. If anything is unclear, email us at play@theater.games.

What we collect

  • Account info. An email address (or Google account) when you sign in, and an optional display name and handle you choose.
  • Game results. Which puzzles you completed, your guesses, your scores, your streaks, and timestamps.
  • Push notification endpoints. If you opt in to push notifications, your browser gives us a unique URL we can send messages to. We never see your phone number.
  • Settings. Things you toggle yourself: profile discoverability, notification preferences, theme.
  • Operational logs.Standard server logs (IP, user-agent, path, timestamp) kept for security and debugging. We don't log your email alongside these.

What we don't collect

  • Phone numbers.
  • Payment info (we don't take payments yet).
  • Location, beyond what your IP discloses to any web service.
  • Behavior across other websites.

How we use it

  • To run the games (track streaks, render leaderboards, deliver puzzles).
  • To let your friends find you, if you've made yourself discoverable.
  • To send you the notifications you've opted in to.
  • To debug crashes and fix bugs.
  • To investigate abuse if it happens.

Sub-processors

We use the following services to run theater.games. Each has its own privacy policy.

  • Supabase (database, auth) — supabase.com/privacy
  • Vercel (hosting, basic analytics) — vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy
  • Google (sign-in via OAuth, optional) — policies.google.com/privacy

Where your data lives

Our servers and database are hosted in the United States. If you're in the EU, UK, or another region, your data is transferred to the US under the Standard Contractual Clauses our sub-processors maintain.

Your rights

You can:

  • See what we have. Request a JSON export of your data from your Backstage page, or by emailing us.
  • Delete your account.Available from the same place. We anonymize historical leaderboard rows so other people's pool standings stay intact, but your identifiable info goes away.
  • Opt out of notifications. All notification toggles default to off. You opt in if and when you want.
  • Withdraw consent. Anything you opted in to, you can opt back out of, with no friction.
  • Complain. If you believe we've mishandled your data and you're in the EU, you can lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Cookies

We use a single first-party cookie for authentication (necessary — you can't stay signed in without it). We use Vercel's anonymous traffic analytics, which we ask your consent for the first time you visit. We do not use any advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Children

theater.games is for ages 13 and up. If you're under 13, please don't sign up. If we learn we've collected info from someone under 13, we'll delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy in any meaningful way, we'll let you know in the app before it takes effect. The "Last updated" line at the top will tell you when.
